Barstool College Gaming Championship Power Rankings (Round of 32)

Week 1 of the Barstool College Gaming Championship was as electric as we expected. Some teams really made a case for themselves as the powerhouse teams moving forward, while others got eliminated during the Round of 64. Week 2 is upon us and with that, half the competition will advance to the Sweaty Sixteen.

Tune in tonight at Twitch.tv/BarstoolSports at 7pm EST to watch the competition.

Week 1 Recap

Power Rankings

In Week 2's power rankings, I will be highlights the 16 teams that I believe will advance after tonight's competition. GLHF to all competing

1) WVU

Hard to put any other team here than West Virginia. Led by their slayer Josh, WVU was the only team to break the 200 point total in Week 1. They finished the Round of 64 with 205 total points and all the momentum on their side. Aside from slaying, they were also able to secure to wins and a 2nd place finish. These placements to me signal a strong team all around when considering slaying ability ✅ and understanding when to tighten it up and play for the win ✅

2) JMU

James Madison University, home to Gucci Dinucci (is this name dead yet? probably) - finished 2nd in the Round of 64 with a total of 190 points. This team is the most well-rounded team hands down. True, CJ and Jordo all play extremely well together and they'll keep this same energy going into tonight's competition.

3) Penn State

I will never not mention that in the first Barstool College Gaming Championship, PSU was one of the worst teams fielded. In this competition, they are easily up there as one of the strongest teams in the entire tournament. Last week, they were missing an absolutely slayer in Minqe (former CMC champion). With his addition to the squad, I am expecting big things from the Nittany Lions. Their key to victory is securing the wins. They fragged out in Week 1 but were only able to secure 1 Victory Royale.

4) Trinity (TX)

Didn't expect this team to be here? I didn't either entering the Round of 64. BUT, Schmitt, Bibb and Jared play very well together. They were able to secure two weeks in Week 1 with a second place finish as well. If they are able to keep up this same level placement points, I would encourage them to drop a little hotter or play more aggressive early game and they could easily jump to a 170-180 point team.

5) Grand Canyon University

Ebatez. Ebatez. Ebatez. Familiar with the name? You should be at this point. A literal demon on the sticks - he was our top fragger in the Round of 64 with a whopping 85 kills...However, my biggest fear for this squad is that too much of the work load is on Ebatez' back. Titan and Panda were only able to get 40 kills combined. If Grand Canyon wants a chance at redemption from the last Barstool College Gaming Championship, we need to see more production from Titan and Panda. To catch up on the former College Gaming Championship Drama, see below:

6) Arizona State

ASU, led by Fishidy, is a very talented team and much more humble this time around. In The Round of 64, they were only able to get three 3rd place finishes, which significantly hurt their overall score. If the boys are able to adopt Iron's ways and secure the dub, this team is deadly.

7) Arizona

The Battle of Arizona is officially on. Arizona is another very well-rounded team that has experience from the previous CGC. Phoenix Duyck was the top fragger for this squad. If they are able to get a little more production out of downtothesocks and Gannon, they'll be in a much better position this week.

8) Notre Dame

I am taking a leap of faith here because the Fighting Irish did not have a good showing in the Round of 64. They finished with 118 points (20th overall), but they have one of the best slayers on their team in ChaaseOG (55 kills in Week 1). If this team doesn't make it into the Sweaty Sixteen, I would honestly be stunned. But, crazier things have happened...

9) Michigan State

StanMan34, fellow headband wearer and Warzone sweat, led MSU last week with 38 frags. The Spartans were one solid placement away from being a top 7 team in the Round of 64. I'm expecting a big night from Stan and the Spartans.

10) Villanova

I gota be honest here, I am pleasantly surprised to see how well this squad as performed. Matt and Pat seems to play very well together with slaying abilities that go hand-in-hand. If the Wildcats can get more production out of Corbmc88 - they'll punch their ticket into the Sweaty Sixteen.

11) Baylor

Mr. Daft absolutely willed this team into the top 16 last week. He finished with 54 total kills. If Baylor wants a comfortable advance into the Sweet Sixteen, they need to have Arxher and Pasta step up and get some frags. Wouldn't mind a few Hospital drops to secure the bird (very General-esque) to help inflate those kill numbers. Keep an eye out on the performance of Mr. Daft. Similar to Ebatez, the kid knows how to make plays happen.

12) Belmont

Belmont - the notorious favorite team of the chat. Crayola, Chambot and KJayy came to play last week! The boys secured two dubs and a second place finish. Need to see some more color from Crayola (#DadJokes), but if this squad can keep up the same momentum, they'll be in a great spot for the Sweaty Sixteen.

13) Tampa

Late entry into Week 1, the Tampa boys are led by Stainooo who finished Week 1 with 45 total kills. Staino is another demon on the sticks, the man can frag with the best of em. Will_Rub will probably be 10+ coffees in by the start of the tournament, so I'm expecting my man to be absolutely cracked out. If dishonestcape can unleash the honestcape power, this squad should be able to squeak into the Sweaty Sixteen.

14) Central Florida

Another very well rounded team, Dillan, Alex and Kevin are looking to have another repeat performance of 140+ points. Although this squad did not get any wins in Week 1, they secured 3 second place finishes (PainU) - which overall, is still a great placement score. If UCF locks it in tonight, I expect them to make it through to next week.

15) North Carolina

UNC was one of our top dogs from the first CGC and they did not have a great showing last week. I do have faith in the Tar Heels tonight and I think they'll be able to put on a good performance tonight.

16) Seton Hall

*SLEEPER ALERT* Dubbed the most winningest team from the first CGC - Seton Hall did not start this tournament off well or as we expected. They were only able to get two 2nd place finishes and one 4th place finish with very low kill totals. The Pirates are all about the Victory Royale and I expect Nick, Kevin and Ray to get back to their roots of "dubs first."

That wraps up your MRankings - GLHF to all teams competing tonight!
