First off - welcome BACK to the new (and improved?) MRagsTV.com! I first launched this site in 2020 as a creative outlet for more people to consume my content in various ways. I've always like blogging and it gives me an opportunity to really dive deeper into topics than I normally would. So thanks for being here for the ride!
Alright, let's really get into today's topic - It's Time for a Change. A Big One.
Gaming is currently in one of the most boring times that I've ever experienced. Warzone is all but completely dead and there doesn't seem to be too many games to really dive into. Now this isn't overly shocking as it seems to happen every few years and let's call a spade a spade - Warzone had an INCREDIBLE run. But like all good things, eventually it all comes to an end. This is just how the lifecycle of games work - bringing back Verdansk won't save Warzone. Sure, it'll be popping for a day or so, but we'll be right back where we started with the same boring guns, hackers everywhere and a map we once loved.
This time reminds of me the gaming scene prior to Fortnite dropping, then after the Fortnite World Cup and ultimately, the time right before Warzone. Ya see, there's always a big game looming around the corner - we just never know if it'll be good enough to sustain or it'll be a complete surprise when it takes over (ie Fortnite).
As it currently stands, the only two games on my radar are Star Wars: Jedi Survivor which dropped on April 28, 2023 and Starfield which drops on September 6th, 2023. I'll go more in-depth on these games prior to their releases so this blog doesn't turn into a 10,000 word manifesto.
Other than that, XDefiant is really the only other game that caught my eye. I recently played the closed beta and while it's fun, I'm not sure if it really has what it takes to last. I'm praying I'm wrong, but it doesn't have the innovation I'm looking for.
Another thing to consider - this low time in gaming isn't the worst thing. It makes it that much better when a game comes around and completely blows our expectations out of the water. Take Hogwarts Legacy for example: an absolute masterclass video game! However, once you beat the main storyline, there isn't much else to do. Sure, I completed all the Merlin Trials and went for 100% completion, but there's no replay-ability in HL. A successful multiplayer or quidditch could've solved this issue, but it would've been really difficult to pull off. Also, if you're someone who casually games - Hogwarts Legacy is the perfect game because it'll give you 50-60 hours of gameplay. When you're a dork like me, you burn through those games in one week for the sake of #content.
So in today's world, I've been doing community-assisted Elden Ring runs and they've been insanely fun. Hogwarts Legacy really opened up the door for single player games and up next we got Skyrim (my first time playing), Fallout 3, New Vegas, 4 and so many more. If you wanna suggest games or get involved - join our community discord here.
There always will be fun games to play, so for now we're in a time of finding the right game for you. Maybe try out that single player game you've wanted to play, or that retro throwback you've been meaning to get back into. It's the time to experiment and see what you might've missed over the past few years. Off stream I've been messing around with Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and have been absolutely loving it.
What To Expect From The Blog
I'm gonna do my best to keep you guys updated with the latest games news and my thoughts/opinions. There's no set amount of blogs per/week or per/month - it's just really about what's on my mind and what cool stuff I see. Some blogs will be longer form like this, others will be quicker blogs with a video I wanna show you guys. By all means, if you have topics you'd like me to cover - feel free to comment below!
I'd give Diablo 4 a serious look, diablo 2 was one of the best games of all time and the beta for D4 was great. Comes out June 2nd
